Centennial Sleep consists of macro images depicting blown-up details of 1960’s View-Master discs, including “The Sleeping Beauty” and others. Centennial Sleep attempts to create new narratives by appropriation and recontextualization of obsolete media objects. Sleep now refers to abandoned images themselves, as well as psychological states of an individual. In addition, the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence is not a coincidence.
Below, selected prints of Centennial Sleep on display at “Uni” (Sleep) group exhibition in Humppila 2016.
